Police blitz nets 27 suspects

YEOVILLE - An anti-crime blitz conducted by Yeoville police yielded positive results as 27 suspects were arrested in the precinct for various crimes.

According to police, the operation took place over two days and there were arrests for theft, assault, malicious damage to property, shoplifting, theft out of motor vehicle, possession of stolen property and contravention of the Immigration Act. Yeoville police spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said, “Most of the suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.”

Among the suspects was a 24-year-old woman who was arrested for allegedly being in possession of stolen property.

The police received information about a woman who was in possession of property reported stolen during a burglary in a residential area the previous day.

Malatji said the police proceeded to the given address and found a woman in a room on the property.

He said, “The woman was asked about the ownership of the property and she alleged that she bought the item from an unknown person.” She was detained at Yeoville Police Station and was expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon. Malatji urged members of the community not to buy stolen goods.
