J’Something sizzles in the kitchen

HOUGHTON - Local musician, Joao da Fonseca, popularly known as J’Something, has taken his hobby to a whole new level.

Excitement mounts as the Houghton resident, who is part of the popular group Mi Casa, starts shooting episodes for his very own cooking show set to hit TV screens soon.

Having grown up with parents who are both in the culinary industry, the sultry singer said he’d always had an interest in cooking and experimenting with food.

The show promises to be worldly in terms of the kind of food the singer will prepare because not only has J’Something travelled much of the world through his singing, but he also has a strong Portuguese background.

Growing up, J’Something said his favourite childhood meal was a Portuguese dish called Bifana.

“[It is] my dad’s favourite. [It is] basically a Prego roll but with thin pork slices. It’s great. It was just a ritual when I would visit my dad,” he explained.

Although he admits how having a cooking show had always been a dream of his, he has assured his fans that his time in the kitchen won’t take away from his music.

“MiCasa is my life. Cooking is my hobby,” he said in an interview with The Gazette.

J’Something said it was because of his music that he had been blessed with the opportunity to have a show of his own.

Leading up to the beginning of shooting, J’Something would tease his social media followers with photos of dishes he had tried out in his own kitchen.

When asked what meal he had tried out for the very first time and was pleasantly surprised at the end product, the aspiring cook said, “I made a pork belly in the pizza oven and it turned out pretty darn good. I was extremely pleased with the sight. But honestly, I enjoy anything in the pizza oven.”

The show is being filmed at his house. The musician redesigned and renovated his kitchen for the show.

The Gazette is not too sure what J’Something will enjoy most, whether it is cooking in his new kitchen or playing with all his new SMEG appliances that he said he loved so much.
