King David pupils in the pink

LINKSFIELD - King David Linksfield pupils are doing their bit to raise awareness for breast cancer sufferers during the course of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The pupils are actively involved in raising awareness, supporting education around cancer and raising money, and have participated in various activities to create interest for their cause. Cancer is a cause close to the pupils’ hearts since two of their King David schoolmates have been diagnosed with cancer.

The campaign, which will last throughout October kicked off with a week of activities. These will include spray-painting the pupils’ hair, attaching coloured extensions for the girls, painting pink ribbons onto the girls’ nails, collecting teddy bears for Choc, and selling cupcakes and special-edition pink ribbons, badges, and bottles of water.

Fourteen pupils sacrificed 25cm or more of their hair as a donation to Cansa and the DL Link, where it will be made into wigs for cancer patients.

The school grounds have even been decked out in pink to support breast cancer awareness, with lines of trees in and around the school receiving a cerise fabric wrapping. More than R40 000 has been raised during the campaign thus far, and all proceeds will be donated to various cancer awareness organisations.
