Yeoville police arrest 34 in weekend blitz

YEOVILLE – IN A weekend of big success for Yeoville police, 34 suspects were arrested including four for being in possession of dagga.

During a an anti-crime blitz operation around the precinct, the police managed to nab suspects for various offences.

Yeoville police spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji said the crimes ranged from possession of dagga, theft, assault, robbery, bribery, shoplifting, driving while under the influence of alcohol, fraud and attempted murder.

Meanwhile Malatji said, “Four suspects were arrested for allegedly being in possession of dagga on the corner of Hopkins and Bezuidenhout streets.”

He said police received information about a house where dagga was stored and police went to search the house.

Malatji said, “Upon arrival police found four men smoking dagga and sitting inside the house.”

The suspects were searched and dagga was found in their possession. They were arrested and taken to Yeoville Police Station for detention. Malatji said that while at the police station, one suspect tried to bribe the police with R200, but the police refused. Malatji said a charge of bribery was added.

Most of the suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon.
