Ex-KES boy involved in music festival shooting

JOBURG – Three people have been hospitalised after an alleged argument at a music festival ended in a bloody shooting.

IOL reported that the shooter, Jarred Silverman was a former King Edward School pupil and professional boxer. According to his Facebook profile, Silverman matriculated from the school in 2010. He is now in an intensive-care ward at Netcare Union Hospital, under police guard.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Frank Nkuna confirmed the incident and said five people were injured during the incident but the motive was unknown. He said one suspect had been arrested.

IOL reported that the incident stemmed from an alleged feud between two families and a number of bystanders were injured during the shooting.

The suspect was shot and arrested by a member of the public who attended the event, believed to be a police reservist. A 9mm pistol was recovered from Silverman.

Nkuna added that an investigation was underway.
