Dance residency applications open

JOBURG - APPLICATIONS for the Dance Forum choreographer Residency Programme are now open.

The programme, to run between March and November next year, will offer choreographers a space, for a period of up to six weeks, where they will be able to create new work.

Spokesperson, Di Sparks said the programme will be based at The Dance Space in Newtown.

“The programme will [also] offer choreographers assistance on all levels, music and administration; and, depending on the outcome, the work will be presented at a space in Joburg,” she said.

Successful applicants will also receive a fee of R10 000, airfares and accommodation for two choreographers from outside Gauteng, fees for dancers (maximum 10 dancers per choreographer) per residency, and per diems.

Resident choreographers will be required to facilitate a weekly open class at the Dance Space, show the outcome of the residency at a space in Joburg, have a face-to-face conversation after the showing, and provide a full report on the process after the residency.

“Applications for the residency are open to professional South African choreographers, and the work must be [between 30 minutes and one hour long],” said Sparks.

All applications will be considered by the Dance Forum committee.
