Open trench endangers children’s lives

LINKSFIELD - Ward 32 Councillor Steven Kruger is crying foul over the Johannesburg Road Agency failure in backfilling and restoration of pavement in Club Street, Linksfield , outside King David School.

The hole is between the traffic light outside the school and the nursery, and has been there since June.

Kruger said the failure by the agency was dangerous. He said the matter was fairly urgent as pedestrians currently had to step into the busy Club Street to get around the hole in the pavement.

“We have sent numerous e-mails and held numerous meetings in an effort to solve the problem. But the Johannesburg Roads Agency is not fixing the hole,” Kruger said.

“The hole is dangerous to pedestrians who use the pavement, some pushing baby prams and have to walk… in the busy street. Joburg Water transferred the matter to the roads agency a long time ago, but nothing has been done to solve it.”

He said that the three-month long problem was with the storm water pipe, which should be dealt with by the roads agency. Kruger said one of the agency’s officials told him that he had been to the site with his foreman and promised a resolution.

However Kruger maintains that the problem should have been fixed a long time ago. “We need the hole to be filled and want our pavement back,” he said.
