Enjoy a tour of trendy Newton

NEWTOWN - The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation will offer a walking tour of Newtown.

Newtown is the heart of Johannesburg’s cultural precinct, and it will play host to the Joburg City Festival from 2 to 5 October.

The foundation is inviting all those interested to come and enjoy the buzz of the festival, but more importantly, explore important heritage sites in the area and contemporary additions to the landscape.

The tour encompasses much of Newtown’s industrial heritage – the Potato Sheds, Market Building, the workers’ compound, the Turbine Hall and others, but also celebrates the adaptive reuse of many of these buildings into theatres, museums, offices and apartments.

The tour will include some stops along the way to enjoy a glass of bubbly while watching the sunset.

Anyone interested can meet Brett McDougall and Monique Jefferson at 5pm on 4 October outside the Market Theatre.

Park at Newtown Junction entrance on Carr and Miriam Makeba streets.

The cost is R80.00 for members and R130.00 for non-members.
