Suspects rob a ‘Wrong house’

HOUGHTON - A woman was distraught after she was tied up and robbed by two men who later told her that they were at the wrong house.

According to the woman, she was sleeping when she was woken up by two men who throttled her before they tied up her hands and legs. The suspects allegedly asked her about the whereabouts of her husband and the number of children in the house before they started ransacking the place, searching for items they could steal.

According to police the men opened the cupboards before they returned to the victim and asked her where she kept her safe.

Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said the incident took place at the Eight Winds residential complex where the victim told the robbers that she didn’t have a safe.

Tsoanyane said, “The robbers became aggressive and told her that they were sent there and that they knew there was a safe in the house. They then asked her about her occupation, and she told them she was a teacher. One of them asked her if she was not a retailer and she replied that she was not, Then one of the robbers told her that they had come to the wrong house.”

According to the victim, the suspects took many valuables from her home, including three Samsung flat screen TVs, jewellery, two Ipads, a laptop, two cameras, two Sony video cameras and two cellphones. The victim added that the robbers also stole her white Kia Sedan with registration number XPF 133 GP.

Tsoanyane said the police were investigating the case and asked the public to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
