Shaving it off for Matthew

PARKTOWN - Parktown Boys' High School show support for one of their pupil's fighting cancer.

Parktown Boys’ High School showed its support for one of its pupils, Matthew Martins who is facing a major medical challenge

Martins was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a form of cancer, in May last year, and after months of treatment, Martins received the all-clear from his doctors.

Yet, a little over a year later, the 17-year-old received news that the leukaemia had returned, and he would once again have to go through chemotherapy which would leave him physically depleted and unable to attend school.

In May last year, a Shavathon was hosted by the school’s senior boys. Pupils, teachers and coaches all surrendered their hair to the cause and helped raise R24 000 in a few hours. Bravely, two female teachers, Eureka Fourie and Tara Jones also shaved their locks.

This year again, the school hosted another Shavathon to raise money. The corridors and halls of Parktown Boys were filled with hair of every kind as hundreds of boys had their heads shaved to support Martins

The school has appealed to anyone interested in helping Martins to visit The Matthew Martins Cancer Appeal Facebook page.
