Drug drive in Norwood

NORWOOD - The Norwood Community Policing Forum will hold a campaign about drug abuse on 4 October.

The campaign is aimed at the youth and will take place between 9am and 1pm at the Orange Grove park, which is located between 12th and 13th streets and 9th and 10th avenues in Orange Grove.

This drive is supported by the Department of Social Development, schools, businesses, churches, synagogues and mosques in the area, and particularly Lighthouse to the Nations Church and the St. Augustine’s Anglican Church.

The programme will kick off with the forum’s chairperson Duncan Barker, a spokesperson of Norwood police and Sydwell Thwala of the Department of Social Development delivering relevant statistics on drug use in the community. It is common knowledge that drugs are easily available along Louis Botha Avenue.

The forum’s Sector 4 crime forum committee headed by Geoff Samuels has decided to do something about the abysmal situation.

Sector 4 includes Fairwood, Fellside, Huddle Park Golf Course, Linksfield Ridge, Mountain View, Orange Grove, Royal Johannesburg Golf Course, Sydenham (part) and Victoria.

Popular DJ Iconic will perform at the drive which will include hip hop artists, celebrity TV guests, music and dance performances, and Nqobile (Qbee) Mtshali’s Poetry in Motion with drummer Herman.

There will be a general quiz geared to the interests of youth.

The event includes a talk by famed drug rehabilitated personality, Shani Krebs, and an invitation to members of the public to speak about their drug-related experiences.
