Wits student arrested for rape

JOBURG - A 30-year-old student from University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) has been arrested and changed with the rape of 22 year-old woman.

According to reports, the man was arrested on 24 September following the alleged rape of a fellow student.

According to IOL the female student was raped at Phumlani Gardens in Newtown on 21 September at 2am. She told police that she woke up in the accused’s bed and saw condoms on the floor. The victim said she had been at Gandhi Square, the night before, for drinks. She said she did not consent to sexual activities with the accused.

Johannesburg Central Police confirmed an arrested had taken place in connection with the rape.

The suspect is due to appear in court on Thursday.
