Police keep schools safe

GREENSIDE – Parkview police conducted a drugs and weapons search at the nearby Greenside High School where two knives were recovered during the search.

In an aim to reduce petty crimes that could lead to serious and sometimes severe cases, police confiscated the knives, while the narcotics dog found no illegal substances. Violent incidents and substance use are a common phenomenon at various schools around the country and police want to prevent the escalation of illegal activities at an early stage.

Drug and weapon searches are common in high schools as police believe crime-free communities starts with school pupils. The use of drugs at schools contributed to crime levels, dagga being the most common among pupils.

Police would continue to conduct searches to ensure the safety of pupils and prevent drug use in schools.
