Parkhurst success drives more fibre projects

PARKHURST - Following the success of a pilot project in Parkhurst, fibre service provider, Vumatel has announced plans to take fibre to 42 more suburbs in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Vumatel’s pilot project in Parkhurst generated huge interest from homeowners associations, communities and residents across the country and the company has confirmed that the Parkhurst project is in the process of being rolled out, with the first homes to receive fibre by the last week of October.

“People are fed up with expensive and poor internet services in South Africa,” said Niel Schoeman, CEO of Vumatel.

“Our solution is to work with communities to turn their suburbs into high-speed open-access ‘fibrehoods’. The Parkhurst project is progressing well, with internet service providers coming to the party with some attractive offerings. It’s a very exciting time, and we want to share this opportunity with a wider audience.”

Vumatel’s high-speed fibre is capable of providing households with up to one gigabit of bandwidth, and is open-access. This means you can choose from a variety of service providers, creating competition and giving you more choice.

“Neighbourhoods that express the most interest will receive fibre first,” said Schoeman.

“Once a certain target is reached, we will know that there is sufficient interest in an area to support the initiative. Residents can also check how they are doing against other neighbourhoods, creating a healthy bit of competition.”
