CRAIGHALL PARK – Police are investigating the death of a Craighall Park resident who was allegedly murdered at her home.

Police spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji said the 89-year-old woman was possibly raped and a white 1400 bakkie was stolen by the perpetrator.

Malatji added that the suspect got involved in an accident with the stolen bakkie further up Grosvenor Avenue.

According to Malatji, a motorist who witnessed the accident said a man jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards Jan Smuts Avenue.

“No arrests have been made yet,” he said.

A Craighall Park resident told Rosebank Killarney Gazette that the woman had come home and found the burglar in her home. Although unconfirmed, the resident said local security guards saw the bakkie and went to the woman’s house, whom they knew, to find out if she had given permission for someone to use it, when they discovered her body.

A police investigation is underway.
