PSL warns of counterfeit MTN8 final tickets

PARKTOWN – The Premier Soccer League has issued a warning to soccer lovers about counterfeit tickets and buying tickets at illegal selling points ahead of the MTN8 final.

Tickets for the final between Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs were sold out within four hours after sales were made available to the public. The game will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 20 September.

Soccer fans have been urged not to buy match tickets on the ‘underground market’. The league’s head of safety and security, Phillip Masimong warned that individuals found in possession of fraudulent tickets will face arrest and prosecution.

“We are working very closely with Saps and other security clusters to ensure that only people with legitimate tickets will gain access to the stadium. The police will be on high alert and will arrest those caught with fake tickets. We therefore warn our people not to be scammed by opportunists,” he said.

Some fans have taken to social media to resell their tickets which cost R90, at prices of up to R350 per ticket.

“We will also be in the lookout for those people who will be trying to sell tickets at inflated prices. We encourage our people not to buy these tickets,” he added.

Pirates advanced to the final with a 5-1 aggregate thrashing of Wits University, while Chiefs outplayed title-holders Platinum Stars 5-0 over two legs.

Kick-off is at 8.15pm.
