Kwazulu-Natal launches reality TV show

HYDE PARK - A NEW reality travel TV show, Holiday Swap KZN was launched at Tsogo Sun, Hyde Park on 16 September.

Initiated by Tourism Kwazulu-Natal in partnership with Thebe Tourism Group, the show is aimed at encouraging more middle class South Africans to visit and discover the province.

Boni Mchunu of Tourism Kwazulu-Natal said the reason the show was first launched in Johannesburg, even though it will be recorded in Kwazulu-Natal, was because the majority of people in South Africa who travel to the province were from Gauteng.

“Although many people visit our province, we believe many more middle class families do not consider the possibility of travelling as they believe it is too expensive,” she said.

“One of the aims with the reality show is to illustrate how possible it actually is for people to travel within South Africa.”

Mchunu said tourism was a key economic driver, and although it has been in existence for many years, not all middle class people travel as it doesn’t ‘speak’ to them.

The concept of the show is that a group of three or four friends will enter to become one of the groups sent off to a holiday destination in Kwazulu-Natal and will face challenges where they experience a holiday thrill that is outside their comfort zone. Each team will score points for completing challenges, and the team with the most points wins.

The teams will be supported along the way by former Isibaya actress who also hails from Kwazulu-Natal, Nomzamo Mbatha.
