Knife-wielding robbers arrested
Hillbrow community took lead in the arrest of two robbers who had been terrorising the neighbourhood.
According to police they were on a routine patrol on the corner of Catherine and Kotze streets when they noticed five men running in different directions.
Hillbrow police spokesperson Constable Mduduzi Zondo said, “Police gave chase and managed to apprehend one suspect. When they searched him they found a knife.”
Zondo said police took the suspect to where he had fled from.
“The police took the suspect back to Sopa Street and they found the community members grabbing another suspect,” he said.
Zondo said the community told the police that the suspect had been terrorising the community for some time. He said the suspects had allegedly been spotted robbing people on several occasions using knives.
“The suspects would allegedly stop people in the street and rob them of their cellphones and money,” he said.
The suspects, in their 30s, are due to appear in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
