Church receives books for less fortunate

PARKVIEW – Book Bound, a specialist school textbook shop in Randburg, donated thousands of textbooks to the St Columba's Church in Parkview, which would be handed out to schools across the country.

The textbooks, which come in various subjects, cater for pupils from Grade R to matric; there are also English literature books, Afrikaans, IsiZulu and books in other African languages. The church will distribute them to schools in disadvantaged areas across the country, as well as in Zimbabwe.

The church’s Reverend Martin ‘Chunky’ Young said books played a crucial role in pupils’ learning.

“We’re very grateful for the donation we get from Sue Billet and Book Bound twice a year. We manage to filter these books through to pupils who don’t get books and they use them extensively,” he said.

The textbook shop has been donating books to the church for the past 15 years.
