YEOVILLE - Members of Police Crime Intelligence Unit shot two suspects who were hiding a guest house in Yeoville.

According to police the incident took place at the corner of Dunbar Street and Cavendish Road. Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said, “The members of the Crime Intelligence Unit were following up on information about the two suspects who shot and wounded police officers while escaping from the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.”

On 20 August, the two prisoners, aged 28 and 26 were due to appear in court on charges of house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms. According to police they emerged from the holding cells and opened fire in the courtroom. Police reported that it was unclear how they got the weapon. After the shooting the two suspects fled the court.

Malatji said the suspects were traced to the guesthouse in Yeoville. He said when the suspects saw the police they started shooting at the police who returned fire.
