Greenside gets creative on Heritage Day

GREENSIDE – Greenside’s main business node will host a celebration of art and design on Heritage Day, 24 September.

Heritage Day in Greenside promises to be a meeting of international thinkers and local creators as the popular neighbourhood celebrates the fields of art and design.

Coinciding with an international creative conference held by the Greenside Design Centre and the University of Johannesburg, the event, called Cumulus Johannesburg, will bring together art, design, graffiti, and food in an unprecedented celebration of human expression.

This will be the first Cumulus conference held on the African continent, and will include 250 attendees, some of whom hail from as far afield as Holland, Japan and the USA.

The speakers and attendees all work in the fields of art and design.

A number of the venues and businesses along the Greenway Road and Gleneagles Drive strip will play host to a number of creative events.

These will include an Organic and Designer Market in the parking lot of the Greenside Design Centre; live music at Openroom Studios; a hair show at Carlton Hair College; an art and graffiti expo; as well as the usual entertainment from local restaurants and bars.

The event comes as a timely expression of the recently established Greenside Business Association’s plan to reinvent the neighbourhood as a design hub.
