Family livid after palm tree knocked down by motorist

A Linksfield resident is fuming after one of her palm trees was damaged after a motorist allegedly drove into it.

According to Pamella Wiskin, her family would like members of the community with information on who could have damaged the tree, to come forward.

She said her family was saddened that no one was willing to own up to the incident.

“What usually happens is they [motorists] turn the corner from Club Street at such a speed that they end up going into our drive way,” said Wiskin.

She added that in a similar incident, which happened a few months ago, a motorist smashed into their gate after driving into their driveway, which cost “an untold fortune” to repair.

Wiskin, who lives with her mother and daughter, said her family loves and takes care of their trees, and that it was unfair that someone could damage the trees and not own up to it.

Upon visiting the residence, this newspaper witnessed how motorists drove recklessly when turning from Club Street into Protea Street.

Wiskin said they only realised that the tree was damaged when they got home from work on 2 September and to date, no one has come forward with information.
