Muslims to unite against violence

Muslims in South Africa are speaking out against violent organisations.

On 14 September Faithworks, a network of South African Muslims, will host an interfaith vigil for people who have lost their lives, homes and dignity through the actions of groups like the Islamic State in Iraq and Boko Haram in Nigeria. They will stand united at Constitution Hill.

According to the network, the aforementioned organisations claim to represent Islam, but they contradict Islamic values.

The interfaith vigil is a stand in solidarity with communities suffering as a result of alleged atrocities committed by the groups.

Speakers on the day include Foundation for Human Rights executive director Yasmin Sooka, political analyst Steven Friedman, and Afro-Middle East Centre director Na’eem Jeenah.

The vigil starts at 4pm at the Kidney Amphitheatre at Constitution Hill.
