Flying squad arrest man in hijacked car

OFFICERS from the Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested a man for possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to Bramley police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, while on a crime prevention patrol, the officers received a message to look out for a black Fiat Punto which had been hijacked in the Linden area.

He said, “While patrolling on the corner of 4th Avenue on 9th Road, the officers noticed a car fitting the same description as the hijacked one. It was parked outside a house where a man was opening the gate [to drive] inside. There were two other men in the car including the driver.”

Maphakela said when the officers approached, the three men tried to run away. He added that the officers managed to catch the driver of the vehicle and took him back to the car.

“When they questioned him, he told police that he had bought the car,” said Maphakela.

He said the car tested positive for the hijack case filed in Linden.

Maphakela appealed to members of the community to refrain from buying stolen goods. He said, “If a deal sounds too good to be true then it is. Don’t buy it if you are not given documents to prove the purchase”.

The suspect, a resident of Alexandra, is due to appear in court soon.
