CPF warns against supporting crime

Norwood Community Policing Forum has warned residents against buying stolen goods.

Posting on the forum’s Facebook page, chairperson Duncan Barker said criminals were brave in how they acted. “If we as a community can stand together and get involved in fighting crime actively we can reduce these incidences,” he wrote.

Barker was responding to a report that two men had robbed a store in the Norwood mall and made off with cellphones worth R450 000 in January this year.

“Think next time before you buy stolen or fake goods or do something illegal. You are assisting these criminals if you do [because] it’s all connected.”

Barker encouraged members of the community to get involved with the forum to eradicate crime.

He further encouraged residents living in the Sector 1 policing area to attend a meeting scheduled to take place on 28 August at the Wanderers Club’s Champion Room in Melrose, which will start at 6pm.

Suburbs covered in the sector include Houghton Estate, Melrose, Melrose North, Melrose Estate, Melrose Bird Sanctuary, James and Ethel Grey Park, Houghton Golf Club, Killarney Golf Course, Birdhaven, Riviera and Birnam.

Barker encouraged residents to like the forum’s pages on Facebook and Twitter to receive updates and tips from the forum.

“Please consider getting involved in one of our forums. We need all of us to fight the scourge of crime.”
