Praying for peace

The Federation of Synagogues Women’s Guilds has called on all Jewish women in Tribland to join them in praying for peace.

Although there is no common venue for this event, participating women are encouraged to take a moment in the comfort of their own homes, to say a prayer for peace and harmony in South Africa and Israel before lighting Shabbat candles.

The prayer is scheduled to take place on 29 August which is also known as 3Elul 5774 according to the Jewish calendar.

Women are also encouraged to pledge a donation to a charity organisation of their choice.

The organisation’s secretary, Hannah Sachs said the success of the prayer day depends on how many women will participate.

She urged women to also recite Psalm 27.

The event started in 1995 and has since become an annual occasion.
