Yeoville artist to launch album in Soweto

An artistic ‘hustler’ Noluthando Dlamini, a Yeoville based female afro-urban vibe and spiritual singer is determined in making her mark in the music business.

Dlamini will be launching her album EP (Experimental Project), at Ngaphesheya at Nambitha Restaurant, one of the most popular, upmarket eateries in Soweto on 6 September.

The restaurant is located in the historical Vilakazi Street in the tranquil Orlando East. The Soweto street is famous because both Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu lived there.

The line-up for the event includes Ntando as a guest with performers Mad Koolia, Lihle and Nomhle.

Dlamini will be launching her album in collaboration with BushTV, an online TV channel which will also be launching their live screening on the internet. The channel’s managing director Khululekile Banzi said the channel aimed to create an alternative platform to promote the country’s creative industries.

Popularly known as Roserro, Dlamini said she wanted to inspire people through her music.

“I always try to get the best out of everything, I am an optimist, that’s what got me into music,” she said.

Dlamini added that she wanted to create music that would be listened to by generations to come.

Banzi said, “The reason behind the choice of venue is to keep in line with the artist’s theme of an “afro-urban vibe in a Soweto setting”. The launch coincides with Heritage Month, and the artist’s music speaks to the “cultural melting-pot” of South African music.

Dlamini said although it was very challenging to introduce herself to the market, her God-given voice had been instrumental in getting her noticed. She chose Soweto as alaunch space to inspire the kasi, or township, people. She said, “My album has a message for the kasi people, and Soweto is the largest township in the country. I saw it as a great platform for me to launch my album.”

The Eastern Cape-born singer also performed at this year’s Grahamstown National Arts Festival on 4, 5 and 7 July at the Victoria Theatre. Her music has elements of various genres from jazz and fusion to reggae.
