Police and public work together to catch robbers

Hillbrow police gave thumbs up to the local community who helped police to apprehend three robbery suspects.

According to police, a man was walking on the corner of Leyds and Twist streets during the day, when he noticed he was being followed by six men.

Hillbrow police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said the six men attacked the man from behind, grabbing him and searching his pockets.

Zondo said, “They took an undisclosed amount of cash and ran in different directions, but there were two suspects who ran in the same direction. The victim screamed for help.”

He said the police saw a man running in the street and they chased and apprehended him as they noticed that people were chasing him. Meanwhile some community members managed to chase and catch the two suspects who ran in the same direction. The suspects who are aged 28, 31 and 39 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon on robbery charges.

Zondo, who was very grateful to the community said, “I thank the public for their support in combating crime in the area, they have been very helpful to us. We also appeal for their assistance in the pursuit of the suspects who are still at large.”
