City Power secures more substations

THE VULNERABILITY of substations has become a concern for many residents living in the Parks.

Now it would seem that City Power has taken a proactive stance in the ongoing fight against cable theft.

Substations in the Parks, including one on 22nd Street in Parkhurst, have been secured with a new door and palisade fencing.

According to resident, Alfie Brighton, the substation had been unsecured for a long time, despite repeated requests to City Power to install new locks.

“It was only through the intervention of local councillor Tim Truluck that a new door was installed, together with perimeter palisade fencing,” said Brighton.

“I am a resident living opposite the substation and I believe the initiative is excellent and should deter cable thieves.”

Ward 117 councillor, Tim Truluck, said it was encouraging to see City Power starting to properly secure our vulnerable electricity substations.

“As the last link in the electricity supply chain that brings power to our homes, it is important that they are not vandalized nor should they become the target for cable thieves,” he added.

“As residents, we should also be looking after them in our neighbourhoods. In this case, the residents in the street have kept a constant lookout over their [substation] and reported any problems to myself and City Power as soon as they occurred.”
