Local gallery celebrates the feminine

Local gallery, Gallery on 6th celebrated all that is woman with the opening of an art exhibition on 9 August.

Artists Ernst de Jong, Ronel Wheeler and Ronald Palmer all used their style and inspiration to showcase the beauty and strength of the female figure.

Wheeler, the only female exhibitor, said her inspiration came from the intuitive side of being a woman.

“My paintings depict the internal conversation; they depict the sun and the moon, light and dark, and how eventually these two can come together,” she said.

Having worked as a psychologist earlier in life she discovered art as a form of therapy. Wheeler said she wanted more people to have conversations about art without feeling intimidated, as art was a way to “awaken one’s own creative potential” and a way to “get in touch with one’s intuitive side”.

The gallery on 6th Street in Parkhurst filled up with art-lovers and community members who marvelled at the artworks.

Wheeler explained that the reason why the gallery was different to most was because their exhibitions were not purely for commercial reasons, but there was also a platform for local artists to not only showcase their works, but also to learn from other more experienced artists.
