Police seek hijacker

BEREA – Hillbrow police are searching for an armed robber and an Opel Corsa bakkie he allegedly hijacked in Berea.

Police said the hijacker approached the stationary vehicle, which had two occupants, on 5 August at about 10pm. The unknown man allegedly knocked on the window of the vehicle and subsequently produced a firearm before ordering the occupants to vacate the car.

Hillbrow police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said, after forcing the two occupants out of the car, at gun point, the suspect entered and sped off with the car. “The incident happened so fast the complainant was unable to get a description of the suspect,” he said.

Zondo appealed to motorists to avoid parking in secluded and quiet areas at night, where it may be difficult to get help from onlookers, he said. No arrest has been made yet as the suspect is still on the run.
