She said, “Bhuti wam, I feel good when I call you in my language but it means my brother. I am hurting inside to lose a member like you, but we must rejoice. “It’s been a great honour working with you. You have left your mark, we will remember your discipline and work ethics. We will miss your guidance that’s whyI quoted from Timothy 2 verse 7. You fought a good fight for Norwood Police Station and police service at large.”

Another police member Captain Phumza Mankayi said she learned to be humble from Oganne. Mankayi said, “I also learned a spirit of team work from you. “You showed us that you didn’t choose the police as a career but it was call to you. You were a true reflection of an ideal police officer, you served your term, and you won your race now it’s up to us to continue the race.”

The Bloemfontein-born Oganne retired after 33 years of service. He is married to Margaret and has four children. He started working as a police officer in 1981 in Bloemfontein, then moved to Sunnyside and lastly Norwood.

In his speech, Oganne urged young police officers to refrain from temptations to be involved in illegal and criminal acts. He said, “Serve the nation with passion and be disciplined. Tell the young to listen to their seniors and continue to serve the public with respect and avoid temptations into corrupt activities. There are bribes which are very tempting but please refrain yourselves from those illegal activities. I know Norwood police are not corrupt.”
