According to Bramley police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela the incident occurred along 6th Road while the pair were walking towards the Hyde Park shopping centre.
“The man and his cousin were approached by a man who pretended to know them with the intention of getting closer to them. Once close enough, the suspect showed them his gun and promised to blow their brains out should they do anything wrong,” said Maphakela.
“The victims alleged the man ordered the female victim to empty out her handbag, to give him their cellphones and the money in their wallets.”
Maphakela said thereafter the victims were told not to move or look in the direction in which the suspect fled.
The suspect allegedly managed to get away with valuables and money worth more than R10 000.
At the time of publishing, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
