Dine with friends for a good cause

Non-profit organisation, Living Link has challenged members of the community to cook and host dinners for a good cause.

Located on the banks of the Braamfontein Spruit in Parkhurst, Living Link facilitates intellectually-disabled people’s transition from school to work, to independent living.

Lisa Ward of Living Link said, due to the declining economy, it was getting harder for people to donate to non-profit organisations.

“However, many homeowners host and invite friends over for food and wine anyway, so why not do it for a good cause?” she said.

Community members interested in participating in the Living Link Come Dine with Me 2014 initiative are required to volunteer to host a dinner, braai, cocktail evening or even a picnic, invite their friends, families or colleagues over, and in turn ask them to contribute R100 towards the meal.

“The proceeds will then go to the Living Link’s Sponsor a Student Initiative,” explained Ward.

“The Living Link needs everyone’s help so I’m putting the challenge out there for people to make a difference and host a dinner party on their behalf.”

Local resident Sarah Hudleston has pledged to host a Come Dine with Me evening, as she wants to support education-based programmes.

“The initiative to sponsor a student’s education is one that’s very close to my heart and I would encourage other people to also get involved,” she urged.
