Prepare for a bloody book fest
Africa’s only crime book festival, The Bloody Book Week, founded by talk show host and avid crime book reader Jenny Crwys-Williams, is celebrating its fifth year.
This year the event will be held from 6 to 9 August at venues throughout Johannesburg where some of the authors including Peter James, Deon Meyer and many others will be in attendance.
Twenty-two different venues across Joburg, including the Gautrain and hotel 54 on Bath, will host the writers and audiences, while lunchtime book readings by the authors at Exclusive Books will be an added feature of the festival.
The venues will range from small bookshops to auditoriums, from coffee shops to swish restaurants, as a variety of experiences are brought before the audiences.
The Bloody Book Week seeks to upstage its precursor, Fright Night, where the cream of South African crime writing gathered for a night of great writing, conversation and books.
According to a statement released by the organisers, this year’s festival has broadened its scope with local crime writers rubbing shoulders with some of the best crime writers – fiction and non-fiction – in the world.
