Boycott Israel: BDS South Africa

JOBURG - As the death toll of Palestinians killed in the Gaza conflict increases, a local human rights and Palestine solidarity organisation called for the boycott of Israel at the 702 Walk the Talk.

Supporters of BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) South Africa hung placards and carried banners all along the route of Walk the Talk. The event reportedly attracted about 700 000 participants.

The banners read: #GazaUnderAttack – Boycott Apartheid Israel, Apartheid: Wrong in SA, Wrong in Palestine, and Killing Kids is Not On, referring to the recent deaths of more than 150 Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip.

There has been various individual and collective actions by ordinary citizens, from all walks of life, in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

More than 1 000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza conflict.

With casualties on both sides and the deaths of more than 1 000 Palestinians, concerned citizens have called on the government to recall the South African ambassador to Israel and to expel the Israeli ambassador from South Africa.

On behalf of BDS South Africa, Muhammed Desai said, “The South African government is being called on by South Africans to act, and to act now, by taking decisive action against these Israeli attacks on Gaza.”
