Thai embassy launches exciting cuisine week

THE ROYAL Thai Embassy is set to launch an exciting campaign to celebrate their upcoming Thailand Restaurant Week.

The week, in August, is aimed at exposing South Africans to the best that Thailand cuisine has to offer, and is a collaboration with the Department of International Trade Promotion Thailand and the embassy.

The launch took place at Melrose Arch on 22 July and Dr Chakarin Komolsiri, Trade Commissioner at the embassy, invited members of the public to go out and get a taste of Thai cuisine in Johannesburg.

“The [Thai] department is proud to share the diversity of taste in Thai food with South Africa, via Thailand Restaurant Week,” he said.

He added that patrons would be able to enjoy authentic Thai cuisine at Thai Select restaurants, which have been accredited by the embassy, and stand a chance to win a trip to Thailand too.

Sean Kearms, marketing officer at the embassy, explained that, in addition to promoting Thai cuisine, the embassy would also run a campaign, which will give customers an opportunity to win various prizes.

“Our campaign will be both online and at Thai restaurants and patrons will stand a chance to win a trip to Thailand to experience the culture even further,” he said.

The exciting event will run from 4 to 10 August at various Thai Select restaurants in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban.

“If your affair with Thai food is going to be an enduring one, you want to be certain that the restaurant you choose is providing authentic cuisine,” Dr Komolsiri said of the upcoming event.
