Norwood arms cache couple back in court

Norwood couple and their domestic worker who were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and explosives at a house in Norwood are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court today.

A COUPLE and their domestic worker who were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and explosives at a house in Norwood are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today.

Emma Shumler-Tishko, 62, her husband Mark, 59, and Endi Nkhoma, 26, who all appeared in court on 23 June, are facing charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, dealing in dagga, and contravention of the Explosives Act. Wheelchair-bound Emma was previously granted bail of R5 000 due to her condition. Mark and Nkhoma remain in custody.

The Ukrainian couple and Nkhoma were arrested at the couple’s house in Norwood on 22 May when police found R1, R4, R5 and AK-47 rifles, and about 300 handguns at the house. Police also discovered detonators, a machine used to manufacture ammunition, packaged dagga and explosives used for ATM bombings.
