Crime hits Norwood

Norwood police urged residents to be vigilant as several cases of house robbery, breaking and burglary were reported at the station recently.

Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said there were five cases of residential crimes which were reported recently and said residents needed to take all the precautionary measures.

She also urged them to contact the police if they saw any unusual and suspicious activities in their areas.

Tsoanyane said in one of the incidents in Hope Street, Mountain View, items worth R20 000 were stolen from a house in a case of house burglary. She said, “The victim told the police that he went to sleep around 1am leaving everything in order with the doors locked, but when he woke up around 7:30am he was surprised to see that the gate was broken and open.

“As he checked around the house he found that some items were stolen including a radio, laptop, monitor, DVD player and play station.”

She added that police are investigating the case.

Tsoanyane said in another case of house breaking in 14th Street in Orange Grove, items worth R27 500 were stolen. She said the complainant said she woke up to find the kitchen door wide open although she had locked it the night before.

Tsoanyane said, “The complainant realised that the door [had been] forced open, and when she checked around the house she found that some items were missing. The missing items included a TV, three laptops, a hard drive and house keys.”

Tsoanyane said two more house robbery cases were reported to the station. These took place on Nellie and Ivy streets in Norwood as well as on Roux Street in Rouxville.
