Police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said one of the suspects jumped over the counter while the other two mingled with the patrons.

“The suspect who jumped over the counter pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded cash. When he [didn’t get] the money, he started looting alcohol from the shelves,” he said.

Zondo added that when one of the patrons realised what was going on and stood up to investigate, he was attacked by one of the suspects.

Zondo added that one suspect was certified dead on the scene while the other two suspects managed to flee.

He said, “An unlicensed 38 revolver with a filed off serial number was recovered from the dead suspect on the scene.”
