Joburg Water fails to contain sewage problem

IT WOULD appear that Joburg Water has failed to contain the sewage overflow problem on Loch Avenue.

This comes after The Gazette reported that residents had complained of the frequent overflows, and had called on Joburg Water to find a solution to permanently address the problem.

Loch Avenue resident Dr Joachim Hartleb, said that most previous overflows were experienced seven weeks ago when Joburg Water responded and did some work on the pipes in the street.

However, only weeks later residents have to again deal with the overflowing dirty water and the terrible stench of the sewage.

At 2.30pm on 17 July, Flo Bird said although Joburg Water was aware of the problem, as one of their trucks had been spotted at the scene earlier that morning, the leaking sewage continued to flow down the street.

“The sewage is running down the gutter into the rainwater system which goes into the Braamfontein Spruit and then on to the Limpopo River,” she said.

One of the men working on the pipe excavations, Lebohang Rakgwane said men from Joburg Water had been working to fix the overflowing sewage but had left the site with dirty water still flowing at 2.30pm.
