Spend 67 minutes in Maboneng

MABONENG PRECINCT - If you would like to take honouring Madiba's memory into the city on Mandela Day, why not join forces with the folk of Maboneng Precinct?

The precinct management team joined forces with DlalaNje in Hillbrow to create a day of events for the children, homeless and hard-working of these neighbourhoods on 18 July.

“We’re [going to set up] a playground inside Moad (Museum of African Design) from 10am until 5pm where there will be jumping castles, reading areas, kiddies’ yoga, food trucks, music, dancing and more,” said precinct spokesperson Hayleigh Evans.

“We’re inviting the children of the neighbourhoods to spend a fun-filled day with us, and we’re inviting you to help make this day as fun as possible for them.”

Mandela Day in the precinct will also see clean-up crews doing street clean-ups in the area throughout the day.

Evans said that, together with DlalaNje and MainStreetWalks, they would also walk from Ponte City, Hillbrow, to Moad and distribute blankets and warm clothing along the way, at 12pm.

“If you can’t be with us on the day, but would still like to participate, please feel free to donate blankets or books by dropping them off at the information container on Fox Street, during business hours,” she said.

“These blankets will be distributed on the day, and the books will be donated to our local schools and creches.”

Mandela Day, celebrated annually on 18 July, is a global movement instituted to honour the life and work of Nelson Mandela by making a change for the better in the world around you.
