Couple arrested for assaulting pregnant woman
Next month South Africans will be celebrating a Woman’s Day where rights of women are upheld but in Hillbrow, a man and his girlfriend were arrested for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman.
Although South Africans will be celebrating women’s rights in a few weeks, a pregnant woman was assaulted by a man and his girlfriend in Hillbrow.
According to police, the victim claimed the male suspect is the father of her unborn child and she went to his home in Hillbrow to speak to him.
Hillbrow police spokesperson, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo said when she arrived at the man’s flat she found him with another woman.
Zondo said when the woman tried get inside the flat an argument ensued between the three. “The argument led to a fight and the man and the woman allegedly assaulted the pregnant woman with a bottle and a steel rod,” said Zondo.
He added that the woman managed to escape from the beating and went to report the matter to the police. Zondo said, “Police went to the flat and found the two suspects home and arrested both of them.”
Zondo added that the two were charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. They were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon.
