Police nab hijacker

Yeoville police arrested a man for allegedly being in possession of a hijacked vehicle.

According to police the man was arrested in Yeoville at the corner of Raymond and Hopkins streets.

Yeoville police spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji said the police were on routine patrol when they spotted a vehicle parked on the street corner with one occupant inside. Malatji said, “Police went to the car and approached him and searched the car. When the police checked on the registration number they found that the vehicle was hijacked in the Jeppe area in the month of May this year.”

Malatji said the occupant of the vehicle was arrested and the owner of the vehicle was contacted who positively identified the suspect as the person who hijacked him.

He added that the suspect was detained at Yeoville Police Station and was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
