Song for Reeva Steenkamp

JOBURG – As the Oscar Pistorius trial draws closer to an end, a local artist has released a song about Reeva Steenkamp.

Artist Mathew Gold penned the song titled, Reeva after visiting the University of Pretoria where he took a selfie next to a photo of Oscar Pistorius.

Gold said, “I wrote and recorded this song with a fictional opinion about what Reeva’s last words were. This is my unofficial story.” He said the song was not just about Pistorius and Steenkamp. “Many people are in tough situations daily. This [song] is also for you,” he said.

The song has lyrics such as, “When did I choose the wrong love?…Take your ring and your good luck.”

Steenkamp was shot dead by Pistorius on Valentines’ Day last year. Pistorius has denied claims made by the State that he shot her as a result of an altercation. He said he mistook her for an intruder. The trial continues at the North Gauteng High Court.
