Japari celebrates 48 years

PARKVIEW – Japari School held a birthday assembly to celebrate their 48th anniversary on 27 June.

The school, on Dundalk Avenue in Parkview, was founded by Dr Sonia Machanick in 1966 as a clinic. Its name Japari comes from the names of her children: Janice, Paul, Roy and Ian. Today there are almost 200 pupils at the school.

Headmaster at the school, Stephen Rees said the birthday marked 48 years of educational success; he attributed the success to the quality of the staff, supportive parents, alumni and the pupils.

“It’s got a very long and proud history. We can celebrate the past, appreciate the present and look forward with confidence to the future,” said Rees, who has been with the school since 2002.

Pupils were awarded prizes for various activities leading up to the birthday, with a dance and marimba performance at the assembly.
