Police charge man with drug possession in Yeoville

A MAN of 42 was recently arrested in Yeoville after police found him in possession of six packets of the infamous drug, nyaope.

The arrest took place on the corner of Louis Botha and Grafton streets on 22 June.

According to Constable Thabo Malatji, spokesperson for Yeoville police, the arrest came after police conducted a stop and search in the area.

“The police stopped the man after he appeared to be suspicious and searched him, which then led to the discovery of the drugs in his pocket,” he said.

Nyaope is a drug commonly found in townships and is a cocktail of heroin, anti-retroviral drugs and rat poison amongst other chemicals.

The man was detained at Yeoville Police Station and charged with possession of drugs. The man appeared at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s court on 24 June.
