Mayor Tau leaves impression

JOBURG – Joburg Executive Mayor Parks Tau left a lasting impression at the 2014 New Cities Summit gathering in Dallas, Texas.

The two-day summit held at the Dallas Arts District attracted about 800 participants from 40 cities.

It aimed to generate and share ideas on issues of city living; transportation, economy, culture and education.

Tau shared insights on progress on the City of Johannesburg’s growth and development strategy 2040, and also engaged audiences on how to achieve lasting, sustainable and inclusive transformation for a historic city such as Johannesburg.

Tau was also expected to have bilateral meetings with his counterpart, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio after the conference.

Other engagements will include a meeting with philanthropist and former US vice-president Al Gore. These engagements are part of the city council’s mission to make Johannesburg a city that works for its citizens in all facets, be it economic or social.

This year’s summit under the theme Re-imagining Cities: Transforming the 21st Century Metropolis, coincides with the start of a new era in South Africa where the ruling party intends to press ahead with the implementation of the National Development Plan.
