Metro police vehicles stoned in Joburg CBD

The Johannesburg Metro police seized counterfeit DVDs and arrested eight suspects, including a 16-year-old boy, during a raid in the Joburg CBD.

The raid followed the stoning of two Metro police vehicles at the corner of Bree and Sauer streets during an operation in Johannesburg on 14 June.

According to spokesperson of the Metro police, Superintendent Wayne Miennaar, although none of the officers were injured during the incident, the patrol vehicles were damaged.

“A few days later, during a follow-up operation, the suspects were arrested for displaying and being in possession of counterfeit DVDs,” he said.

The teenager paid an admission of guilt fine of R100 while the remaining seven suspects – all foreign nationals – were charged and were due to appear in court soon.
