Ex-drug mule to inspire recovery

The Wedge Gardens will host ex-drug mule turned author, Shani Krebs, who will share his experience with drugs.

EX-DRUG mule turned author and motivational speaker, Shani Krebs, will host a talk at the Wedge Gardens treatment centre.

Krebs, arrested and imprisoned for over 18 years in Thailand after being caught with 2.2 kg of heroin, has used his experience to write a book and share his story.

Adél Grobbelaar of the treatment facility, said the upcoming talk would feature the journey Krebs underwent since being arrested in 1994.

“During the talk, he [Krebs] will be talking about the time he spent in the Thai prison, Bangkwang, and what led to him being arrested in the first place,” she said.

Krebs has also written a book, titled Dragons and Butterflies, which details his experience in prison.

The talk will take place at the treatment centre located in Whitney Gardens, at 6:30pm and entrance is free.

Wedge Gardens is a substance abuse treatment centre which began operating in 1943 and specialised in helping members of the local community. The centre has grown considerably since then and now offers treatment nationwide.

It has various programmes to assist substance abusers, including an after-care programme and a diversion programme, which focuses on treating people arrested while driving under the influence.
